MacArthur Memorial unveiling new visitor center

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — The MacArthur Memorial in Norfolk is unveiling a new 16,000-square-foot visitor center this weekend.

The MacArthur Memorial pays tribute to Army General Douglas MacArthur, who oversaw the U.S. occupation of Japan after World War II. The museum attracts more than 50,000 visitors each year. It includes a library, a research center and various exhibits that surround a rotunda that serves as the final resting place of Army General Douglas MacArthur.

Special events on Saturday and Sunday will include the display of new exhibits, book signings and a concert. The center also will premiere of a new high-definition video that pays tribute to the life and service of MacArthur.

Opening exhibits include a Harley Davidson motorcycle from World War II and the general's 1950 Chrysler limousine.
