According to a report from Chip Brown of orangebloods.com, Texas coach Mack Brown will step down after 16 years in Austin, but the head football coach has been quoted as saying he's not going anywhere yet.

"If I had decided to step down I sure wouldn't be killing myself down here. I have not decided to step down," Brown said in a text to Horns247.com's Bobby Burton on Tuesday.

Texas athletic director Steve Patterson released a statement Tuesday addressing Brown's status and denying that any action has been taken. "We continue to discuss the future of Texas Football," Patterson said in the statement. "Mack Brown has not resigned. And, no decisions have been made."

UPDATE (2:01 p.m.): ESPN's Joe Schad reports Texas is denying the news on Brown. Hmm ...

UPDATE (6:42 p.m.): ESPN's Brett McMurphy says Brown to resign by the end of the week.
