Malaysian-born pianist will perform at art opening

Oklahoma City pianist Daniel Zhander P'ng will perform Friday at JRB Art at the Elms.

P'ng will perform at the opening reception for the April exhibition titled “Dreams of Memories.” The reception is from 6 to 10 p.m. at the gallery, 2810 N Walker Ave.

P'ng was born in Malaysia and began studying piano at a young age. Influenced by the works of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin, he practiced for five to eight hours a day throughout his childhood.

He attended Trinity School of Music in London and later studied under his uncle, Tean Hwa P'ng, dean of music at University College in Malaysia.

At 19, P'ng received a full scholarship to Oklahoma City University, where he is a graduate student in musical performance.
