A man was sentenced to 40 years in prison Wednesday after he admitted to dousing his sleeping girlfriend with kerosene and setting her on fire.
Vincent Green, 29, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and first-degree arson charges after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors in Oklahoma County.
He was in court for a preliminary hearing.
Green received a life sentence for the murder charge with all but the first 40 years suspended, and 40 years for the arson charge. The sentences will be served concurrently, prosecutors said.
Green must serve 34 years before he is eligible for parole.
Sherrie Mead, 46, died from her injuries on Sept. 24, 2011, three weeks after she told police Green poured kerosene on her and set her on fire.
Mead, of Oklahoma City, was burned over 38 percent of her body.
According to court records, Mead told police she and Green were involved in an argument on Sept. 2, 2011. Afterward, Mead told him she would not be coming home after work the next day.
The victim said Green threatened to kill her and burn down her house, but she did not think he would really do it.
Mead said she went to bed and was awakened about 1:25 a.m. Sept. 3, 2011, by Green pouring kerosene on her and around the bedroom. She said he ignited the kerosene with a lighter or a match.
