Ladies, check your footwear.

A Japanese man has been accused of trying to kill a female colleague by putting hydrofluoric acid, a highly corrosive chemical, in her shoes, according to CNN.

The station reports that the alleged attack took place in December and caused gangrene to develop in the toes of the woman’s left foot.

Teyuaki Harano, deputy chief of police in Gotemba, said doctors had to remove the tips of five of her toes, CNN reports.
