A man accused of killing his mother and shooting her husband multiple times at their mobile home near Luther in May will stand trial, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Matthew Scott Strickland, 24, is charged with first-degree murder in Oklahoma County District Court. Strickland is accused of shooting Jill and Ottie Sides on the afternoon of May 2. Jill Sides, 46, died at the scene, and Ottie Sides suffered five gunshot wounds, he said Wednesday.

Sides choked back tears when describing what he saw when the gunfire stopped.

“I looked down and she was laying there. She was trying to breathe and blood was coming out of the back of her head, so I knew she'd been shot,” he said.
