McALESTER — Authorities say a Texas man charged with impersonating a police officer and assault has died.

A local newspaper reports that court records say the case against 23-year-old John Austin Osborne of Arlington, Texas, was dismissed Sept. 11 because Osborne died Aug. 24.

A cause of death is not listed.

Osborne was charged in March with using an assault rifle to threaten a woman in McAlester and telling her he was a police officer.

Osborne denied the allegations — but police say a rifle matching the description given by the woman was found in the house where Osborne was located.
