A man who died after an aerial basket tipped over in downtown Oklahoma City Monday has been identified by police.

Efren Garcia, 30, of California was killed when the "cherry picker" fell over, said police Lt. Jay Barnett.

The accident closed all lanes of Main Street between Broadway and Robinson avenues most of the afternoon, Barnett said. Pedestrian traffic in the area was limited as the accident was investigated.

Garcia was working for a California-based remodeling company, Barnett said. About 9:15 a.m. , an aerial basket lift about 40 feet tall toppled onto the eastbound lane of Main, crushing Garcia. He was painting the exterior of Century Center parking garage, Barnett said.

"Fortunately, no pedestrians or vehicles were involved," Barnett said.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident, said Elizabeth Todd, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Labor in the Dallas office. Todd said the investigation could take up to six months.
