Three people dead on Oklahoma roadways

Three people are dead in road incidents reported Thursday by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Three people have died on state roadways, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

Richard Joe Garcia, 55, of Memphis, Texas.

Garcia died in a crash about 2 a.m. Thursday 2 miles south of Sweetwater on State Highway 30 in Beckham County.

Garcia was driving a tractor-trailer south on SH 30 when he went off the roadway.

He was dead at the scene. It is unknown if his seat belt was in use.

Robert D. Poteet, 79, of Lindsay.

Poteet apparently died from a medical condition and crashed about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in Garvin County.

Poteet was driving a pickup north on State Highway 76 when the pickup hit a guardrail and crashed 12 miles south of Lindsay.

He was taken to a Pauls Valley hospital. It is not known whether he wore a seat belt.

Harold Smith, 54, of Quapaw.

Smith died about 5:35 a.m. Thursday while walking just east of the Quapaw city limits on U.S. 69A in Ottawa County.

Smith was walking in the westbound lane when he was hit by a Toyota pickup. He was dead at the scene.

The driver left the scene.
