An Oklahoma man and teenager’s bodies were recovered Monday and Tuesday after apparent drownings in Oklahoma lakes, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Douglas Ottinger, 59, of Boise City

Ottinger was last seen about 7:30 a.m. Sunday after launching his boat in Lake Carl Etling.

As Ottinger went to park his pickup and trailer in the parking lot, the boat drifted away from shore, troopers said.

Ottinger went into the lake to try to retrieve the boat, went under and drowned, troopers said.

His body was recovered Monday by the Beaver County/Liberal, Kan., Fire Department dive team.

He was not wearing a personal flotation device, troopers said.

Unidentified boy, 15, of Colbert

About 1 p.m. Tuesday, a boy and his cousin were swimming and decided to race to a sand bar at Sunset Cove on Lake Texoma, troopers said.

About halfway to the sand bar, the boy called for help. The cousin went to help him and both he and the boy went underwater. The cousin, who was able to get back to the surface, found the boy floating face down. The boy then sank into the water.

The boy’s body was recovered about 6:15 p.m. He was not wearing a personal flotation device, troopers said. has disabled the comments for this article.
