GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. (AP) — Northern Arizona authorities say a man from France is hospitalized after falling about 200 feet from an off-trail area at Grand Canyon National Park.

Park rangers were notified about 7:30 p.m. Monday that someone had fallen from the Grandview Trail located east of Grand Canyon Village.

When rangers arrived on scene, they were unable to see the 25-year-old man because of darkness but they say he was responsive to their calls and questions.

A technical rescue crew arrived and rescue personnel rappelled down to the man, stabilized his injuries and prepared him for transport.

He was transported via ambulance to the park helibase, then flown by an air ambulance to Flagstaff Medical Center.

The name of the man, his hometown and his condition weren't immediately available Tuesday.
