Man shot and killed by Okmulgee police Thursday, Oklahoma authorities report

A deadly shooting involving police was reported in Okmulgee. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has not released the names of those involved.

— A man who officers said tried to elude police was shot and killed early Thursday, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation reported.

About 2 a.m., an Okmulgee officer tried to make a traffic stop at Fourth and Woodlawn. The driver of a sport utility vehicle drove off, and other officers joined in the pursuit.

The driver got out of the SUV with a gun in the 1300 block of E First Street, the OSBI reported.

OSBI reported police shot and killed the man, but exactly how many officers fired has not been determined. The shooting is still under investigation, the OSBI reported.

The SUV driver, whose name was not released, died at the scene. The man’s body will be taken to the medical examiner’s office in Tulsa for an autopsy.

The OSBI did not release the name of the officers involved in the shooting.
