“I ordered Varselona to put the cats down and show me his hands,” Daves wrote in the report. “He yelled back to me that he was not going to put the cats down.”
Daves said Varselona started walking toward him and had to be taken to the ground to be handcuffed.
Varselona told Daves he didn't want to drop the cats because he was afraid they would run off.
“I asked him why he didn't put them back into the car, and he said that he didn't want to get cat hair in his car,” the report states.
Varselona told Daves the house he stopped at belonged to a friend who owns the cats.
Varselona was not injured during the arrest, but his arms were scratched by the cats, Myers said. Myers said the cats escaped, and he was not sure if the owner had recovered them.
