A stabbing victim has died and another man has been arrested, Oklahoma City police said Wednesday.

Vernon Gowdy, 79, of Oklahoma City, was beaten and stabbed Tuesday.

Police were called about 1 p.m. Tuesday to meet a man who said he had information about a possible homicide, according to a police news release.

When officers arrived they met Edward Cortez Williams, 18, who said someone was beaten and stabbed at 5922 S. Lee #2. Officers went there and found Gowdy, who was alive. He was taken to OU Medical Center, where he died.

Williams, 18, was taken to the police homicide unit, where he was interviewed and booked into the Oklahoma County jail on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon.

Police said they don't know why Gowdy was attacked.
