OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Officials say a man has been struck by a Bay Area Rapid Transit train that is likely to cause major delays for the evening commute.
BART officials say the man was on the tracks in the Lake Merritt station when he was hit by the train around 3 p.m. Friday.
Officials say the man's condition is not immediately known, but he was said to be alert and responsive as he was taken to a local hospital.
Authorities say it is not known why the man was on the tracks as they have not ruled out the possibility of a suicide attempt.
Train service was stopped briefly before resuming with delays expected to be at least 20 minutes or more.
