Ronald Mayfield, of Tulsa, is seeking $75,000 in damages in the suit, which was filed Tuesday in Payne County District Court.

Mayfield's wife, Charlotte Mayfield, died Dec. 9 after falling in the stands at the Class 3A state championship football game at the stadium. Charlotte Mayfield's grandson, Hunter Hart, played defensive lineman and fullback for Cascia Hall Preparatory School.

During the first quarter of Cascia Hall's loss to Anadarko, Charlotte Mayfield fell backward down a flight of stadium steps and hit her head. She suffered severe head trauma, and was taken by ambulance to Stillwater Medical Center.

She was later flown to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, where she died the next day.

The suit alleges Charlotte Mayfield fell because of the graduated size of the stadium steps, a lack of handrails and the fact that all the steps were painted the same color, making it difficult to see where one step ended and the next began.

OSU spokesman Gary Shutt wouldn't comment on the lawsuit.
