A Pennsylvania man who shot his little cousin at a Halloween costume party after confusing her with a skunk has been placed on two years’ probation, according to The Beaver County Times.

Thomas Edward Grant, 25, pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of simple assault and reckless endangerment in connection with the shooting of an 8-year-old girl who was wearing a black-and-white Halloween costume and playing hide-and-seek on Oct. 20, 2012.

The paper reports a judge sentenced Grant to serve two years’ probation and to pay restitution to the victim’s family. Grant’s hunting privileges have also been revoked during his probation.
