RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazilian police say they're conducting a homicide investigation into the death of an Iranian-Swedish man who manages a Rio de Janeiro hostel that's popular with adventurous foreign travelers, many of whom are there for the World Cup.
Rio investigators say in a statement emailed on Monday that the body of 34-year-old Millad Mille Ballai was discovered in the hostel over the weekend in the Vidigal slum.
It's a shantytown that clings to a mountainside at the end of Leblon beach, with breathtaking views of Rio's golden sands.
Police would not provide details about the case beyond saying that it's being investigated as a homicide. Ballai was born in Iran and is a naturalized Swede.
The hostel called Pousada Alto Vidigal is known for big parties that attract a foreign crowd.
