Manuel Neuer wins Germany's best footballer poll

BERLIN (AP) — World Cup-winning goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been named Germany's footballer of the year in an annual poll of sports journalists.

Kicker magazine said Sunday that the Bayern Munich 'keeper received 144 out of 701 votes in its poll. He finished nine votes ahead of Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus, who missed the World Cup because of a knee injury in Germany's final warm-up match.

Bayern and Germany forward Thomas Mueller was third with 105 votes.

Neuer was honored at the World Cup as the tournament's best goalkeeper.

Germany's Joachim Loew was voted best coach in the Kicker poll after leading the national team to its first World Cup in 24 years. He took 248 votes, ahead of Augsburg's Markus Weinzierl with 152 and Bayern's Pep Guardiola with 89.
