Oklahoma State star Marcus Smart said that his confrontation with a Texas Tech fan in the stands earlier this month happened in the heat of the moment and that he's learned his lesson.

Smart had his first extensive sit-down interview since his three-game suspension was announced. In the interview with ESPN, Smart said he didn't regret his decision to come back to Oklahoma State for his sophomore season and, he's not arguing with the NCAA's new mandate that came down on Wednesday.

The NCAA rules committee said Wednesday evening that a player going into the stands now faces a flagrant foul 2 and ejection.

"It's a good rule," Smart said. "You need to separate the fans and the players."

Smart declined to elaborate on what was said between himself and Texas Tech fan Jeff Orr on Feb. 8. Smart went into the stands and pushed Orr after words were directed at Smart as he fell into the crowd late in the game.

Oklahoma State welcomes Smart back to the court on Saturday against Texas Tech in Stillwater.
