Marcus Smart's decision: making memories over making money.

At least for one more year.

Oklahoma State has called a press conference for 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Student Union in Stillwater where Smart will announce he's returning for a sophomore season with the Cowboys, a source with knowledge of the situation told The Oklahoman.

The Big 12 Player of the Year and the national Freshman of the Year as the winner of the Wayman Tisdale Award, Smart's return establishes OSU as a Big 12 favorite and a national contender.

Markel Brown and LeBryan Nash also are expected to announce they are returning next season.

Smart had been weighing a decision — a decision he said Monday was getting "harder and harder every day" — of whether to return to the Cowboys for another year or enter the NBA Draft, with projections placing him near or at the top of the first round.

With that decision made, he can look ahead to a 2013-14 season that appears promising, with OSU expected to lose only senior Philip Jurick from a team that went 24-9 and returned to the NCAA Tournament following a two-year absence.

Smart played a major role in a turnaround from a losing record the year before, changing the culture of the program with his leadership and toughness, while also leading the Cowboys in scoring (15.4), assists (4.2) and steals (99), and tying for second in rebounding (5.8).
