After a 12-year NBA career, nine of which he played with the Cavaliers, Price went on to coaching stints in high school. college and international basketball. Since 2007, he's had runs as an NBA assistant with the Denver Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors, Orlando Magic and Hornets.

Current Hornets coach Steve Clifford said Tuesday that Price is ready to be a head coach.

“The fact that they called and asked permission to speak with him shows how much they think of him as a coach," Clifford said. "It would be great if it works out – bad for us, but good for him.”
