Mathis Brothers Furniture and KOCO 5 are giving Oklahomans a great incentive to donate blood Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13. One lucky donor will win a $1,000 gift certificate to the furniture store. Healthy, adults age 16 and older*, are encouraged to donate in an Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) between 2 – 7 p.m. at Mathis Brothers Furniture, 3434 W Reno.
“We are so grateful for great community partners such as Mathis Brothers Furniture and KOCO 5 that make blood drives like this one possible,” said John Armitage, M.D., Oklahoma Blood Institute president and chief executive. “We thank every blood donor who selflessly gives to save another person’s life and Mathis Brothers Furniture for supporting our life-saving mission by providing such a great opportunities.”
Each donor will receive a Thunder mug from Mathis Brothers Furniture and OBI lunch tote. Donors will receive free health screenings, along with Donor Rewards Points to use in OBI’s online store.
“This is a meaningful project with two great partners that can make an immediate impact on someone’s life,” said Brent Hensley, General Manager, KOCO 5. “That is what serving our community is all about”.
Bill Mathis, president of Mathis Brothers, commented on the program’s past success. “Since 2009, when we sponsored our first drive, we’ve had 607 people donate blood. That’s enough blood to save more than 1,800 lives. We’re very proud of that contribution, and are grateful to OBI for giving us this avenue to make such an impact for local families.”
Blood donations can be made every 56 days. Oklahoma Blood Institute is the ninth largest, non-profit blood center in America, providing every drop of blood needed by patients in 140 medical facilities across Oklahoma, including all Oklahoma City metro-area hospitals.
