When Ashley Furniture was ready to expand its HomeStore brand into Oklahoma, the retailer looked for a business partner already well known in the world of furniture.

The choice: Mathis Brothers. With super stores in Oklahoma City and Tulsa and a distribution network already in place, Mathis Brothers signed on to become the operator of at least five Ashley Furniture HomeStores in the state.

The first opened earlier this year in Owasso; two more are planned for the Tulsa market. A location in Norman, at the University North Park shopping center, is under construction and the location for an Oklahoma City store hasn't yet been determined, Rit Mathis said.

Stores will be 30,000 to 40,000 square feet and feature bedroom, dining room, upholstery, motion upholstery, leather, occasional tables, entertainment centers, home office, youth bedroom, recliners, mattresses, lamps and accessories.

They will serve communities farther from Mathis Brothers stores and may offer different promotions, such as free delivery, low interest options and holiday sales, Mathis said.

“The idea is for it to be convenient. You can park right by the front door and walk in,” he said.

Ashley Furniture is one of Mathis Brothers' best-selling furniture brands. Ashley has more than 400 free-standing stores nationwide.
