HONOLULU (AP) — The Hawaiian music group Na Leo Pilimehana will perform at a May Day program in Waikiki sponsored by the Hawaii Tourism Authority.

The event will celebrate the history and tradition of Lei Day. It will honor the Waikiki Beach Boys and include an all-faiths service remembering those who call Waikiki Beach their final resting place.

Na Leo Pilimehana will close out the program with a performance on a floating stage fronting the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.

The tourism authority hired The Kalaimoku Group to organize the event.

Kalaimoku Group President John Aeto says it will perpetuate an understanding and appreciation of Hawaiian culture and the history of Waikiki.

The tourism authority says it's part of a larger effort to highlight local musicians and dancers, elevate Lei Day festivities and boost tourism.
