NORMAN — The annual May Fair Arts Festival will showcase artists from across the United States and provide hands-on art education projects for children as part of this year's event, which opens Saturday and continues Sunday in Andrews Park, 201 W Daws St.
The outdoor event, which features live entertainment and food vendors, will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday with a 5k Art & Sole run, followed by a 9 a.m. 2k run/walk. Artist booths and entertainment begin at 9 a.m. and will continue through 8 p.m.
The fair continues from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Assistance League of Norman is celebrating the 40th edition of the fair this year. Originally a one-day event with a county fair theme, the fair evolved through the years into a multiday venue focusing on art and art education. Proceeds support philanthropic projects of the Assistance League.
Landscape artist Tim Kenney, of Norman, is the Celebrated Artist of the 2013 fair. He will lead the juried art show.
A highlight of the fair is the children's art yard, which allows children to participate in hands-on art activities as well as watch artists demonstrate their techniques.
