Mayes County deputy shoots, kills man early Wednesday

A Mayes County deputy shot and killed a man early Wednesday. Officials said a man fired at a deputy when deputies arrived at the man's house.

— The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting involving a Mayes County sheriff's deputy Wednesday morning.

Deputies were called to a home in the 13000 block of S 425 Road in Chelsea about 1:30 a.m. and were met by 33-year-old Shane Briggs standing on his porch.

Deputies said Briggs fired a gun at a deputy from the porch and the deputy returned fire, killing him.

The deputy's name has not been released.
