McLoud moves to annex land

360 acres north of I-40 may be added to town

McLOUD - Town officials are moving forward with plans to annex 360 acres at Interstate 40 and State Highway 102.

The two 180-acre tracts are north of the interstate and on the west and east sides of the SH 102.

Adjacent land is mostly agricultural, although directly across I-40 is the Citizen Potawatomi Nation's massive FireLake Grand Casino, which is under construction.

The casino, although several miles from downtown, is inside the town limits.

Town Administrator Pete Seikel said town trustees Thursday agreed to start procedures to annex the two tracts at the request of their Oklahoma City owner, Jerry Davis.

Seikel said Davis doesn't appear to have any immediate plans for developing the property but prefers it be annexed by McLoud before Shawnee city officials decide to incorporate the land into their city limits.

Seikel said if McLoud doesn't annex the land, he's confident that Shawnee will one day annex it.

He said Davis has indicated he may use the property in the future for housing and commercial developments.

Efforts to contact Davis were unsuccessful.

Seikel said property owners adjacent to Davis' property will be notified by letter of the city's proposal to annex his land.

He said the proposed annexation also will be advertised in a newspaper beginning next week, and a public meeting will be scheduled on the issue before town trustees vote on the annexation.
