LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — McNeese State has begun an immediate search for a new men's golf coach with the resignation of Neel DeRouen.

DeRouen, who has served as coach for the past seven years, said in a statement Monday that he felt it was in the program's best interest that he leave.

The Cowboys finished last in the Southland Conference tournament this season, for the second straight year. The last time a McNeese golf team placed among the league's top five at the SLC tournament was in 2003 with a fourth place finish.

Athletic Director Tommy McClelland thanked DeRouen for his service and wished him well in his future endeavors.
