Tulsa sportscaster Bob Carpenter's job as Washington Nationals television announcer is in doubt for next season after the Nationals failed to meet a Monday deadline for picking up his option. Carpenter declined to comment, but a new deal still could be done in the offseason.
Carpenter, who handles the play-by-play on OU men's basketball telecasts, joined MASN in 2006 after broadcasting St. Louis Cardinals game for 10 seasons.
— Versus, formerly the Outdoor Life Network, will be renamed the NBC Sports Network on Jan. 2. The cable channel's parent company, Comcast Corp., took over NBC Universal in January, and NBC Sports' production and programming have already been appearing on Versus.
— All three games of the Yankees-Red Sox series will air nationally — 6 p.m. Friday on MLB Network, 3 p.m. Saturday on Fox and 7 p.m. Sunday on ESPN.
— “Out. The Glenn Burke Story,” which documents Burke's legacy as the first openly gay Major League Baseball player, will make its national debut at 9 p.m. Tuesday on Versus. The documentary follows Burke's career as a Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland A's outfielder through his “coming out” announcement in 1982 and his downward spiral after he left baseball. The split drove Burke to drugs, prison and living on the streets. He was diagnosed with AIDS in 1994 and died in 1995.
— Fox Sports Oklahoma is airing 15-minute Dallas Cowboys training camp updates after “Rangers Live” postgame shows. Brad Sham and Mickey Spagnola also host “Cowboys Roundup” at 10 p.m. Sunday, recapping the week's training camp.
— ESPNU's “College Football Blitz” will air 3 p.m. weekdays until Friday, Aug 19. Previewing the best in the upcoming football season, host Dari Nowkhah will be joined by analysts Matt Stinchcomb or Bob Davie to discuss individual conferences and specific positions. It also will be repeated at 5:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
— The NFL Network will air all 64 NFL preseason games, including five games live.
— Former Cleveland Browns and New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini is joining ESPN as an NFL studio analyst.
