Media notebook: ‘Oklahoma All-Access' series to air on ESPN

by Mel Bracht Published: July 21, 2011

For the second consecutive year, ESPN will document the OU football team as it prepares for the upcoming season. “College Football Special: Oklahoma All-Access” will showcase the Sooners in two 30-minute shows (6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23) and as a five-part series on “College Football Live,” “SportsCenter” and additional ESPN platforms in mid-August.

Last year, ESPN spotlighted Alabama.

OU will provide ESPN with extensive behind-the-scenes access into the inner workings of a college football program by giving viewers an inside look at practices, team meetings and activities and campus facilities for seven days, beginning Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Each episode will be presented in the players' and coaches' own words as OU begins its season.

Oklahoma State will host Kansas in an ESPN “Big Monday” men's basketball game at 8 p.m. Feb. 27. OU is not on ESPN's “Big Monday” schedule this season.

The Big 12 “Big Monday” games will tip off with two games on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 16 — Texas A&M at Missouri at 4:30 p.m. and Baylor at Kansas at 8:30 p.m.

Brent Musburger and Bob Knight broadcast the Big 12 “Big Monday” games this past season.

Dan Hawkins, a former Colorado and Boise State coach, has been hired as an ESPNU college football game analyst. He will work 11 a.m. games with play-by-play announcer Pam Ward. Former Florida coach Urban Meyer will work 11 a.m. Saturday ESPN games with Dave Pasch and Chris Spielman.

ESPN2 and ESPNU Saturday night telecasts will have analysts in new roles. Ed Cunningham, who called ABC afternoon games last year with Ron Franklin, will partner with Mark Jones on ESPN2. Brian Griese will move from ESPN2's 11 a.m. Saturday game to ESPNU's night game with Clay Matvick.
