Media notebook: SEC Network launches football coverage with doubleheader, including Texas A&M at South Carolina

Brent Musburger will make SEC Network debut

The new SEC Network launches its football coverage with a doubleheader on Thursday, including No. 21 Texas A&M at No. 9 South Carolina at 5 p.m. and Temple at Vanderbilt at 8:15 p.m.

Former ABC voice Brent Musburger makes his SEC Network debut, calling the Texas A&M-South Carolina game with Jesse Palmer, Maria Taylor and Kaylee Hartung.

On Saturday, ESPN will have a doubleheader of ranked teams with No. 16 Clemson at No. 12 Georgia at 4:30 p.m. (Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge and Holly Rowe) followed by No. 14 Wisconsin vs. No. 13 LSU in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff from Houston at 8 p.m. (Sean McDonough, Chris Spielman and Todd McShay).

Short takes

Maroon 5’s “It Was Always You” will be the featured song on every ABC “Saturday Night Football” telecast this season, beginning with the OSU vs. Florida State game at 7 p.m. Saturday. The song from the new album “V” will be used throughout the coverage, including highlight packages and commercial breaks. Chris Fowler, who has replaced Herbstreit on ABC’s No. 1 team, will call the opener from Arlington, Texas, with Kirk Herbstreit and Heather Cox.

Al Eschbach and Rick Heath are back co-hosting the “OU Football Preview Show” for the eighth year in a row. The show on The Cox Channel (3 and 703) airs three times each week: 10:30 p.m. Thursday, 5:30 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
