TNT’s coverage of the Western Conference Finals was a hit nationally with TV ratings up 35 percent from last year’s finals, but ratings were down in Oklahoma City from the Thunder’s last appearance in the WCF in 2012.
TNT averaged a 4.2 rating and 6.8 million viewers, up 35 percent and 39 percent respectively from last year’s finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies (4.9 million viewers; 3.1 rating) on TNT. The network had the top cable television audience each game night of the six-game series.
Coverage of Game 6 on Saturday night averaged 8.1 million viewers and a 4.9 rating to deliver the top sports program of the day across all of television. Locally, the telecast registered a 29.3 rating in San Antonio and a 25.2 in Oklahoma City.
In Oklahoma City, ratings from the Western Conference Finals were down 13 percent from the Thunder’s last appearance in the WCF in 2012 in which the Thunder defeated the Spurs in six games. Oklahoma City averaged a 24.5 rating this year (26.1, 20.8, 23.3, 26.9, 24.4, 25.2), down from a 28.3 average in 2012 (25.6, 18.0, 29.9, 28.5, 32.6, 34.9).
•“Hookie and Brooksie,” which airs 8-11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday on KGHM-AM 1340, will end its 44-week run June 15. The show is co-hosted by John Brooks and Hookie the Bookie. Brooks said the show might return in another time slot this fall.
•The inaugural X Games Austin will debut in its new Texas home Thursday through Sunday. The 20th year of X Games will include more than 200 world-class athletes competing in the sports of Skateboard, BMX, Moto X, Rally and, for the first time, Stadium SUPER Trucks. The Flaming Lips, based in Oklahoma City, will be part of the musical lineup. ESPN and ABC will combine for 20 hours of coverage, with an additional 7.5 hours exclusive to ESPN3 throughout the weekend.
