Media notes: Thunder sets ratings record

Fox Sports Oklahoma’s Lakers-Thunder telecast on Tuesday earned a 3.9 rating, the network’s best Thunder rating and three times last season’s average. Last season’s high was a 2.8 for a Celtics game on Nov. 5.

→"Fox NFL Sunday,” 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, will broadcast from Afghanistan as a tribute to U.S. servicemen and women. Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan, Jimmy Johnson and Jay Glazer will make the trip for the show just three days before Veteran’s Day.

ESPN’s "College GameDay,” 9-11 a.m. Saturday, will originate from Colorado Springs, Colo., to preview the Army-Air Force game.

→Bob Wischusen and former Michigan quarterback Brian Griese will call the Oklahoma State at Iowa State game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday on ABC.

→ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 will combine for nine hours of coverage from the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Arcadia, Calif.: 2:30 p.m.-6 p.m. today on ESPN2, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday on ABC and 2:30-6 p.m. Saturday on ESPN. Joe Tessitore will be the host.

→The NFL Network begins its fourth season of Thursday night broadcasts with Chicago at San Francisco at 7 p.m. Nov. 12. Play-by-play announcer Bob Papa will work with former Detroit Lions president Matt Millen, who also has called some college games for ESPN.

→FSN’s coverage of the Oklahoma City Thunder has expanded into Kansas, with FSN Midwest carrying 41 games to about 500,000 homes in Wichita and Topeka.

→More Oklahoma cable systems also are carrying the telecasts, including Allegiance Cable (Shawnee and McAlester). SuddenLink has expanded coverage to all its state areas except Grove, Henryetta, Pauls Valley and Seminole.

For satellite viewers, Thunder telecasts air on DirecTV channel 679. Although Dish Network does not have a regular channel for the Thunder, the games can be found on a channel in the 440-450 range.

→Fox Sports Oklahoma has started carrying OSSAA fall programming, generally after Thunder telecasts. The 5A softball final airs at 9 p.m. Sunday and 6 p.m. Tuesday. The 6A final next airs at 9 p.m. Nov. 16. A one-hour fall baseball special debuts at 10 p.m. Nov. 20.
