NewView opens low-vision clinic in Oklahoma City
NewView Oklahoma, the state's largest employer of people who are blind and visually impaired, recently opened a comprehensive low vision clinic at Chesapeake Community Plaza at 710 W Wilshire Blvd., Suite 102. “Low vision” describes a visual impairment that cannot be corrected with glasses, contact lenses, medicine or surgery. At the low vision clinic, a patient will undergo a detailed optometric exam to precisely determine the extent of the vision loss. The clinic also has one of 25 Macular Integrity Assessment machines, which maps the usable vision of the central eye, in the U.S. More than 50,000 Oklahomans are currently living with blindness or low vision. One in seven Oklahomans will experience low vision in their lifetimes. The low vision clinic is expected to serve 1,500 patients each year.
