Sessions for autistic children set

“Potty Time” is being turned into “Party Time” by Oklahoma City and Tulsa special education instructors on Tuesday to help parents with strategies and tips for toilet training their children with autism.

Professionals with the Oklahoma Autism Network are offering sessions from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the University of Oklahoma College of Allied Health building, Room 202, NE 13 and Phillips, and in Tulsa at the OU Schusterman Center, Room 3100, 41st and Yale. ‘Cure Diabetes’ walk scheduled

More than 5,000 people are expected to “Walk to Cure Diabetes” at the Central Oklahoma chapter of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International’s annual event scheduled for May 31 at the Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City campus, 930 N Portland.

This year’s goal will be to raise more than $400,000 for research to find a cure for type 1 or juvenile diabetes and its many complications.

Registration is ongoing. On the day of the walk, registration will begin at 8 a.m. on the OSU-OKC campus for the 3K and 5K walks. Corporate teams will start their walks at 9:30 a.m.; family teams will begin their walks at 10 a.m.

A “Kid’s Zone” will be open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. For more information, go to www.jdrf.org, or call 810-0070.

OSU program takes top score

The internal medicine residency program at OSU Medical Center earned the highest score among 81 osteopathic medicine internal residency programs in the nation on the American College of Osteopathic Internists 2008 Resident In-service Examination.

Dr. Shannon Boughner, a fourth-year resident, earned the highest individual score.

OSU Medical Center’s internal medicine program has had the highest mean scores in the nation for nine consecutive years.

CANCER CENTER: A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Integris Cancer Institute of Oklahoma is scheduled for 3 p.m. May 27 at 5911 W Memorial. It will be built on 17.6 acres of land adjacent to the Oklahoma ProCure Treatment Center, now under construction. Officials said the two centers will create a world-class cancer institute.
