Meers fire flares back up

The fire in southwest Oklahoma flared back up Sunday night forcing evacuations in Indiahoma as crews battle to get flames under control.

A fire in Comanche County flared back up Sunday night forcing an evacuation of residents in Indiahoma, a town southwest of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.

The fire began Thursday in the wildlife refuge and as of Sunday had burned 30,000 acres destroying at least 11 homes.

Cooler temperatures and rain helped firefighters get the Comanche County fire under control, but it flared back up sometime overnight.

According to an update by Chris Killmer, public information officer, there were 121 students and four supervisors evacuated from Treasure Lake Job Corps and 14 homes were also evacuated.

Fire crews are trying to protect the structures which are located near the intersection of NW 267th Street and NW Cross Road, Killmer's update said.

The American Red Cross has set up a center at Indiahoma School and Kim O’Brien said breakfast and lunch are being provided to those who fled their homes.
