Meet Marcus Smart's top competition: Dante Exum Published: January 28, 2014

For the past two seasons, Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart has been viewed as either the best or one of a handful of top point guard prospects in the amateur ranks. Smart could have been a top-five pick last year had he declared for the NBA Draft after his freshman season.

Now, there's some competition on the block in the shape of Australian 18-year-old Dante Exum. The son of former North Carolina player Cecil Exum (who hooped with Michael Jordan at Chapel Hill), Exum is a 6-foot-6 point guard who scouts are projecting as a lottery pick and possibly the first point guard taken in the 2014 draft.

In the wake of Smart and Oklahoma State's Bedlam loss on Monday, Exum made it official Tuesday morning that he would be in this summer's draft.

From ESPN Insider Chad Ford:

"Exum is a little bit taller and longer than Smart (6-4). While both players project as point guards in the NBA, both have the ability to play off the ball at the 2 at the next level. In talking to numerous NBA scouts and GMs, most of them have Exum rated higher than Smart."
