Twinkies are back

DEAR MELBA: I thought I'd never be able to use this recipe again, but Twinkies are back, so thought I would share this recipe in case there are others who enjoy this product.

It's such an easy dessert to take somewhere or just to make for your own family to enjoy.

TWINKIE BANANA SPLIT CAKE

1 box Twinkies

2 or 3 bananas, sliced

1 can crushed pineapple, well drained

Sliced strawberries, optional

2 small boxes vanilla pudding mix

Prepared whipped topping

Chopped pecans

Coconut, optional

Chopped cherries, optional

• Split Twinkies in half and arrange enough to cover 9-by-11-inch pan. Layer with sliced bananas, pineapple and strawberries.

• Prepare vanilla pudding according to box directions. Carefully spread over fruit layers. Do not stir. Spread with prepared whipped topping and sprinkle with chopped pecans and any of the remaining ingredients you choose. Cover and refrigerate.
