TEAM BEANS WITH SANDWICHES
DEAR MELBA: I would like to share with you my recipe for Bootlegger Beans. I've seen other recipes for Bootlegger Beans, but this one is different. I serve them with sandwiches.
DAVE'S BOOTLEGGER BEANS
2 slices thick-sliced bacon, diced
1/3 cup onions, chopped
1/3 cup barbecue sauce
1 can (14 ounces) pork and beans, drained
• Over medium heat, in large skillet, fry bacon until about half done. Add chopped onions and cook until slightly browned.
• Pour off most of the grease and return bacon mixture to heat. Add barbecue sauce and pork and beans.
• Stir well. Cover and let simmer 30 to 40 minutes.

Why are they called Bootlegger Beans? I see no mention of moonshine.

DEAR MELBA: I hope someone will share a pattern for a crocheted hat for newborn babies. Employees at the hospitals put one on every newborn baby to keep their heads warm, and I would love to make some to donate.

DEAR READERS: While going through some old files, I discovered a request for Butterscotch Pie that had never been published. If you have a good recipe you want to share, please do so.
In the meantime, I decided to look through The Oklahoman's archives. And I discovered the following from a column written by Aunt Susan in 1934. Beware, this was before prepackaged mixes. It is a "from scratch" recipe, which is actually what the request specified. Someone will surely have an easier one to make.
