David Milby, 60, of Perkins, a member of the Iowa Tribe Fire Department, was burned over 26 percent of his body Thursday fighting grassfires in the Wellston area.
Milby's fire truck caught on fire as well.
Milby is in critical condition at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Wind-whipped grassfires Thursday burned across western and central Oklahoma, damaging structures, forcing the closure of Interstate 35 and leading to evacuations of residences in the fires' paths.
