Writers never know when inspiration will hit. In 1998, Jeanie Linders saw a production of "Beach Blanket Babylon and decided she could create a spoof that was just as funny.

Out of that experience came "Menopause the Musical, a 90-minute production that pokes fun at hot flashes, memory loss, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and eating binges.

Celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2006, "Menopause the Musical will play a monthlong run at the Civic Center Music Hall's Freede Little Theatre, 201 N Walker. The production runs June 23-July 23.

The show's intended message is that menopause is a passage, but it doesn't have to be a silent passage. It is a stage in every woman's life that is perfectly normal.

The musical, which features new lyrics set to popular tunes of the 1960s and '70s, encourages healthy dialogue about issues of aging and women's health and provides an opportunity to raise awareness with female audiences.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, with 2 p.m. matinees on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, call 297-2264 or go online to www.okcciviccenter.org.
