Mercy's for victims, not abusers

Unbelievably, Crain blamed her behavior on a hormone imbalance brought on by menopause and sessions with a hypnotist, whom she visited to help lose weight. Nonsense! A hypnotist might make you cluck like a chicken; he won't turn you into a pedophile's sidekick and enabler.

Compassion should be reserved only for the victims of this crime, not its perpetrators. Reportedly, at least eight abused girls are seeing counselors. Some children are now a year behind in school, others are bullied because of the resulting publicity, and some have understandably transferred to other schools.

Those children will live with the consequences of Crain's crimes well beyond the length of her 45-year prison sentence. Crain deserved no mercy; thankfully, she got none.
