A metro-area Catholic parish recently celebrated its diversity by offering a taste of the world.
The 16th annual Festival of the Americas International was held Sept. 9 at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 2400 W Hefner Road.
The multicultural food festival was started by the parish's Hispanic Council and evolved into an internationally themed event to celebrate the diverse traditions and origins of the entire church community.
The 2012 festival included ethnic foods and specialties from around the globe, including Nigeria, Germany, Mexico and the Philippines.
In addition to food, the event also included a variety of music from groups and individuals, including musician Edgar Cruz. Dances from several cultures also were performed for festival goers.
Event organizers said money raised at the festival will help fund the church's many outreach programs and services.
The St. Eugene parish dedicated its new 18,800-square-foot church building in April.
