Q&A with Elaine Stith
Metro Tech centers can provide custom training for businesses
Q: What does Metro Technology Centers offer Oklahoma businesses?
A: The centers provide customized and existing training and services to Oklahoma businesses of all sizes. Training areas include business assessment, quality improvement, computer software, safety, customer service, management development, language and small business management. We average 45,000 clock hours of business and industry training per year and worked with more than 80 businesses in the Oklahoma City metro area alone.
Q: What is involved in your customized training?
A: For our customized training, Metro Tech conducts a needs-based analysis to identify training needs. We develop the curriculum and the training materials, and Metro Tech faculty provides the training to the company's employees. Services range from job profiling for selection of employees, integrating new technology, upgrading existing skills or developing and deploying a strategic plan.
Q: What are specific examples of training you've done?
A: We have worked with Long Wave Inc. to provide training on writing federal proposals, quality management, safety management, financial management systems and information technology. We also have provided safety training for construction companies developing some of the largest office buildings downtown. Another large and extremely successful partnership is with Tinker Air Force Base. Through our Aviation Maintenance Technology program at our Aviation Career Campus on the grounds of the Will Rogers Airport, more than 1,300 students have been trained and hired at Tinker's Air Logistics Center, earning a combined annual income of $54 million.
