Michigan bean queen sought for annual festival

FAIRGROVE, Mich. (AP) — Attention women and girls ages 17 to 22: The Michigan Bean Festival is searching for a queen.

The festival and the Michigan Bean Commission are seeking applicants for the 65th Michigan Bean Queen contest, which takes place in the Tuscola County community of Fairgrove in the Thumb. The application deadline is Aug. 14.

Michigan is a leading producer of dry beans.

The Midland Daily News (http://bit.ly/12p2bMd ) says would-be queens must be single and high school graduates.

Applications and information about the event are available at www.michiganbeanfestival.com .

The Michigan Bean Festival pageant takes place on the event's opening day Aug. 30. The festival runs through Labor Day Sept. 2.
