LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A member of the Michigan Public Service Commission has been tapped to lead a new national task force to review and enact policies on telecommunications regulation.
The commission announced Wednesday that Commissioner Orjiakor Isiogu has been named chairman of the Task Force on Federalism and Telecommunications. It's part of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners.
Isiogu says such a review is necessary as Congress considers changes to telecommunications law and companies invest billions to rebuild their systems. The former chairman of the commission that helps regulate utilities in the state says the task force will examine the industry "with an eye on customer protections."
The task force's first order is to review a policy paper it wrote in 2005 to take into account significant changes within the telecom industry.
