MIDWEST CITY — They are called the Bombers, but Midwest City's tandem of Antonio Brown and Timothy Flanders more closely resemble jets.

The speedy duo both had long scoring runs Friday night as unbeaten Midwest City raced past Edmond Memorial, 34-6, at Rose Field.

"I wouldn't trade them,” coach Steve Huff said. "I really like those two kids.”

Flanders, who has offers from Tulsa and Air Force, rushed for 185 yards on 19 carries. He scored on runs of 10 and 77 yards as the third-ranked Bombers dominated the second half to break open a close game.

Flanders would have also had a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, but it was wiped out by a penalty.

Brown, who carried six times for 71 yards, displayed his speed by streaking up the middle for a 59-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

It was a close game for a half, as Midwest City (4-0, 1-0 in District 6A-2) only led 14-6 at halftime.

The Bombers opened the second half with a 12-play, 80-yard drive that was finished by quarterback Jace Chilcoat's 1-yard sneak. Huff called it the most important series of the game.

"That was crucial for us,” he said. "We hadn't sustained a drive all night.”

The game then turned for good on the next series.

Edmond Memorial receiver Kameron Doolittle, who made a leaping 17-yard touchdown grab over a defender in the second quarter, gave the Bulldogs another scoring chance with a 19-yard reception and 37-yard run on a direct snap from center.

Memorial (2-2, 0-1) had first-and-goal at the 10 trailing 21-6, but the drive stalled and the Bulldogs had to settle for a 28-yard field goal attempt.

Bomber defensive back Kevin Gaddis, nephew of former University of Oklahoma star Mike Gaddis, blocked the kick, then scooped up the football and raced 75 yards for a touchdown.

The Bulldogs never threatened again.

It was good to see how MWC responded in the second half. The first half of the game was close, as I thought it might be, but the Bombers pulled away with ease in the second half.
