MIDWEST CITY — In what police are calling one of the most bizarre cases in the city’s history, a 35-year-old woman who was hospitalized for an overdose remains under armed guard after admitting to family members that she had killed an elderly woman Monday for no apparent reason.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 35-year-old Kimberly Hegwood in the slaying of 78-year-old Alma Block. Police say Hegwood is a veteran of the Air Force, who has apparent mental issues. She will be arrested when released from the hospital, police said.

"This was a real whodunit,” Police Chief Brandon Clabes said. "It kind of bewildered all of us. There was no sign of robbery or sexual assault, but we had a 78-year-old female who had been stabbed to death.”

Block was found Monday night at her home at 9904 NE 10 by a friend who went to pick her up for a prayer meeting, police said.
