MIDWEST CITY — A Midwest City High School teacher and football coach is charged in Oklahoma County District Court with sexual battery.
The teacher, Dewayne Williams, 40, has been on administrative leave from the school since Oct. 18, a Midwest City-Del City School District spokeswoman said.
According to court records, prosecutors allege:
• On Oct. 15, a student stopped by Williams' classroom and he gave her a hug and slapped her on the buttocks.
• On a later date, the student stopped by his classroom to grab a piece of gum, and Williams grabbed her by the buttocks and pulled her into a hug. He closed the door and blinds of the classroom and then held and groped her.
Williams told a school police officer that he spoke with the girl for a few minutes and gave her a stick of gum before she left the classroom, according to court records. He said he then ate lunch and took a nap.
Williams said it was normal for him to hug the girl because they had known each other for a couple of years.
“Mr. Williams resigned effective Dec. 20, 2013,” Mid-Del spokeswoman Stacey Boyer said. “He has informed us he resigned for personal reasons. We can also tell you that Mr. Williams has been on administrative leave since Oct. 18, 2013, and will be on leave until his resignation is effective.”
Williams had been with Mid-Del schools since the 2007-08 school year, she said.
Attempts to reach Williams for comment were not successful.
